Getting Back on the Beer Horse (#28)

April 11, 2019 Leave a comment

I once read that every blog starts and restarts about 7 times. I made that up but I think it could be true and now I will try and track down a stat to see if there is anything there. Stay tuned.

In case you were wondering where I have been the simple fact is that I gave up beer, or at least writing about it for a little while. No good reason just the time and priorities of the day winning out but now I am redoubling, retripling or requadrupling my efforts, depending on how you look at things.

On to the beer…Refined Fool Brewing Co’s Ripsnorter Vanilla Porter.

The first thing I have to say is that I like Vanilla Porters, in fact might even have to say that I like Porters in general…now!!

Refined Fool is based in Sarnia in Southwestern Ontario. They are a microbrewery and if their other brews are anything like this one they can grow if they want to. I might be wrong but before this one I thought that Porters were going to be too stouty (is that a word?) and when I think Stout I always think Guinness and that might be the wrong way to look at it. I just can’t get behind room temperature beer, sorry!

I actually got this bottle a while back but it sat in the fridge and now I am pissed I didn’t get to it sooner. Especially because it is not even on their website anymore so my amateur palate is going to have to do my best to describe. I found it very crisp. The vanilla flavouring was subtle and smooth and I think i detected a little coffee too. I don’t want to say too much but maybe someone with more tasting expertise will jump in. (please do!)

Needless to say I am very interested to try Shirtless in Seat 34B, We Danced For The Pizza Guy and What’s Your Christian Mingle Username?  These are just some of the fun names of other beers currently available from Refined Fool.

Refined Fool you are on my list…in a good way.  And if you want to send anything my way I will gladly taste and report back.

Pop Culture Note:  I am going to go streaming here and talk about Hanna on Amazon Prime. Overall I would give it a 7. It is slow in stretches but it is well acted. This is one of those pieces of content where there might not be any good guys. High production values of course from Amazon and I wonder if there is a follow up in terms of taking the story further. Recommend but Jack Ryan was better.
